How it works

What we actually do, in order.

Three things happen under this service: we receive things on your behalf, we file your annual report, and we move your appointment over in the first place. Here is each one in detail.

One

When something is served on your company

This is the part the service exists for. Everything else is convenience; this is the reason the statute requires an agent at all.

  1. 1

    It arrives at our address

A process server, the state, or a court delivers to the registered address on file — ours, not yours. Somebody is there during business hours, which is the whole legal point of the requirement.

  2. 2

It's scanned the same business day

Not the next week, not batched into a monthly envelope. Scanned and emailed to you the same business day it arrives.

  3. 3

We tell you what it is

You get the document plus what it appears to be and what date it arrived — which matters, because response deadlines usually run from service, not from when you opened the email.

  4. 4

    The original is kept

We hold it and can forward the physical document if you or your attorney need it.

We forward documents and tell you what arrived and when. We do not advise you on how to respond to anything served on your company — that is a conversation for your own attorney.

Two

How your annual report gets filed

Included on Compliance and Shield. On the Agent tier we send reminders and you file it yourself.

  1. 1

We track the deadline, not you

Every state on this site sets its own date and none of them mail a reminder. Maine's is June 1; the others differ. We work from the state's record, not from a note in a calendar.

  2. 2

We prepare it from current information

The report restates your entity's officers, addresses, and agent. We prepare it from what the state currently has and what you have told us, and check with you if something looks stale.

  3. 3

We file it and pay the state

The filing goes in ahead of the deadline. The state's fee is billed to you at cost as its own line — never marked up, never bundled into the service fee.

  4. 4

    You get the confirmation

The state's receipt and confirmation number come back to you and are kept on file. That is your evidence the filing was made, if it is ever questioned.

Three

Switching your agent to us

Takes about five minutes of your time. The rest is ours.

Start the switch
  1. 1

    You give us the entity

Name and, if you have it, the charter number. If you do not, we look it up — we would rather find it ourselves than have you hunt for a document.

  2. 2

    We prepare the change filing

A statement of change of registered agent — in Maine that is MLLC-3 / CLKRA-3. We complete it and file it with the state.

  3. 3

    We pay the state's fee

The state charges to record the change — $35 in Maine. We absorb it, so moving to us costs you nothing beyond the service itself.

  4. 4

    The record updates

Your entity keeps its charter number, its formation date, and its standing. The only thing that changes is the address the state has for notices. Nothing about the entity is disturbed.

  5. 5

    We take the calendar

From that point, service of process comes to us and your annual report is on our list rather than yours.

Billing

No paper, in either direction.

Invoices, receipts, notices, and confirmations are all electronic. Renewal is on auto-pay, because the most common way a registered agent relationship fails is an invoice nobody opened.

  • Card or bank transfer, saved once
  • Renews automatically on the same date each year
  • State filing fees itemised separately, at cost
  • Cancel any time before renewal

The FAQ covers most of it. If it does not, calling is faster than email.
