The order of these steps is deliberate — it is what keeps you from being charged for work by a firm that hasn't yet checked whether it can act for you.

    You send the details

    Entity name, members, addresses, how it should be managed — and which registered agent plan you want. This is a request, not an engagement.

    The firm checks conflicts and responds

    Within one business day. If the firm can act, it accepts the engagement in writing and collects the fee. If it can't, it tells you and you owe nothing.

    Documents are drafted and signed

    The firm prepares everything, you review and sign electronically, the formation is filed with the state, and your registered agent service begins.

Submitting a formation request does not create an attorney-client relationship. Apex Business Law, PLLC completes a conflicts check and must accept the engagement in writing before any representation begins, any work is performed, or any fee is charged.

About forming in Maine

Who actually forms the entity?
Apex Business Law, PLLC, a Maine law firm. Apex Corporate Services, LLC is a separate company — it is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. It provides the registered agent service the entity is required to maintain.
What does it cost?
The firm charges a flat legal fee — $1,000 for a single-member LLC, $1,200 for two members, $1,500 for three. Maine's filing fee and expedite charge add $225, passed through at cost. Registered agent service is separate and starts at $129 a year.
Is my request accepted straight away?
No, and deliberately so. The firm runs a conflicts check first and must accept the engagement in writing. Until it does, there is no attorney-client relationship, no work is performed, and no fee is charged. You'll hear back within one business day.
Which states?
Maine only. Legal work follows the firm's licensure, so formation is not offered in New Hampshire or Massachusetts. Registered agent service is available in all three.
Does the engagement cover anything beyond forming the entity?
No. It is limited to preparing and filing the formation documents and the organizational documents that go with them. It ends when those are filed and delivered. Anything after that — amendments, contracts, advice about running the business — needs a separate written agreement.
